Important!

In 2025, the Vaska Emanuilova Gallery, a branch of the Sofia City Art Gallery, will celebrate the 120th anniversary of the birth of the noted sculptor with a special program dedicated to the anniversary. A series of exhibitions and educational programs will present the untold past and unfolding present of women artists.

The gallery houses the largest collection of Vaska Emanuilova’s art. The museum program, presenting exhibitions of artists from Vaska Emanuilova’s circle and the time in which she created, is connected with the sculptor’s donated works and her archive. Research is being conducted, publications are being written, and works – as well as documents, photographs, and films – are constantly being acquired, enriching the institution and supplementing the archive in which important materials about the personal character and work of Vaska Emanuilova and the history of Bulgarian fine arts have been collected since 2007.

The anniversary program includes museum exhibitions dedicated to the artist’s creative work and contributions, an exhibition overview of contemporary Bulgarian women sculptors, and exhibitions of contemporary art. The gallery space will become a place for meetings and educational initiatives, such as tours of the exhibitions and talks with the women artists and curators. For our youngest audience, we have prepared creative workshops with clay and applied techniques. The anniversary program aims to encourage research, exchange, and discussion on issues of sculpture and women artists in the history of art.

Stay up to date with further details about the special program for the 120th anniversary of Vaska Emanuilova’s birth by following the gallery’s website and its social media channels.
